About the role We have two exciting opportunities to join our Arts, Culture and Lifelong Learning Team, where you will contribute to a network of welcoming, professional, and responsive libraries and service centres. As a front facing member of our team, you will work with people, technology, online resources, books, events, and programmes. You will build rapport and actively promote our wide range of resources, supporting our community with lifelong learning and discovery.
Visitors to our sites come to experience our dynamic public library services and to access Council services (such as paying their rates or registering their dog) and government services (such as meeting with Inland Revenue). No day is the same and full training will be given to the successful applicants. Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to; Welcoming and interacting with people from all ages and walks of life.
Proactively engaging with visitors to maintain an atmosphere that feels safe and inclusive for all Providing technology assistance and help with digital resources. Assisting the community with Council and library services. Helping people connect to central government and wider community services through the Heartlands initiative.
Finding, recommending, and shelving books and helping to keep our collections looking great. There are two positions available, both 22 hours a week/0.55FTE, worked as follows: Position 1 - Monday and Tuesday 9:45am to 6:15pm and Sunday: 9.
45am - 4.15pm Psition 2 - Wednesday 8.30am to 5pm , Friday 9.
45am to 6.15pm, and Saturday 9.30am to 4pm Both roles are predominately based at Te Ara tea, an award-winning multipurpose public library, community, and cultural facility in Rolleston.

Reliability, excellent communication, and taking initiative will be keys to success in this role.
You have strong digital skills along with a good understanding of the kaupapa of a modern public library service and the importance this plays in our communities.
